  • Many vision problems in children don’t show obvious signs, which is why a full eye exam — not just a vision screening — is so important. Conditions like nearsightedness, amblyopia (lazy eye), or eye alignment issues can affect a child’s development, learning, and social skills.

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), children should have their eyes examined between 6 and 12 months, again at age three, and then at the start of school. After that, exams should be done at least every two years. A child’s eyes change as they grow, so regular check-ups are essential.

  • We offer myopia control to slow the progression of nearsightedness, especially in children. Through options like specialty contact lenses and atropine drops, we help manage and reduce the risk of worsening vision. Our team will also use our state-of-the-art technology to measure axial length to better manage this condition and promote clear vision.

  • Early detection is crucial in preventing vision loss from glaucoma. Your annual eye exam includes screening for glaucoma, and if needed, we provide further testing and referrals for additional treatment to protect your vision. Our team uses the RadiusXR Visual Field machine for cutting-edge medical testing.

Testimonials

WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY

"I highly recommend coming here for your eye needs! I was able to get an appointment quickly and the staff was very inviting and professional. Dr. McArdle was very thorough, explained things throughout the appointment, and used newer technology that I haven't been exposed to at previous locations. They provided me the feedback I wanted when selecting glasses (choosing a pair can be challenging for us indecisive folks 😂) and allowed me to take my time looking. It was a great experience and suggest you check them out!"

Danielle V.

"Whole staff was extremely friendly and helpful!!! Dr. McArdle was so informative. She took the time to explain everything. Being a somewhat recent widower, Dr. McArdle helped me pick out frames (I had told her, that my wife always chose my frames). First time I have ever experienced this. That extra steps makes a big difference! I will definitely return each and every year."

Kenneth M.

"I was extremely impressed by all staff at this practice. The front desk staff was helpful taking my phone call and scheduling me a last minute appointment. Dr. McArdle was friendly and knowledgeable. She walked me through the photos and tests as we did them, and explained them very comprehensively. She was kind and professional, while also approachable. It was easy to ask questions and have a conversation about my eye health. I would absolutely recommend this practice and Dr. McArdle to anyone who is needing eye care. Also worth mentioning, the space is beautiful and welcoming!"

Emily P.

Everyone was very friendly. The exam was very thorough with excellent explanation of the situation and follow-up. I highly recommend Sugar River Eye Care."

"I was very happy with the eye appointment that I had at Sugar River. I was able to get in same day. The doctor did a great job of explaining things as we worked through my checkup and helped me understand my options."
